Canadian Geese in Apparent Abundance

Canadian Geese in Apparent Abundance

Maryland's Department of Natural Resources resports Canadian Geese definitely will be seen in significantly large numbers, which should be good news for that state's winter hunters. They can take advantage of not only resident Canadian Geese, but migratory ones will converge on various favored areas. As usual, many young birds are expected, so hunters should be able to bag a few. Keep in mind that Canadian Geese are challenging to hunt, in general, because they have a tendancy to rapidly change their habits unexpectedly.

In the Lone Star State, hunters are expecting to bag geese, as well, The most common are Snow Geese, followed by Whitefronts, then Canadian Geese. Being from Texas, originally, I know that the state offers some extremely fine goose hunting, all the way from the Panhandle to the rice fields along the mid-Gulf Coastal areas.

By the way, this is the final official weekend of duck season in East Texas. Reports indicate it hasn't, particularly, been a great season for duck hunting in the state. Weather condition changes may have caused shifts in the duck's patterns, taking them to other areas.

Also in East Texas, the regular groose season comes to an end, as well. However, hunters can STILLl take on those shifty Snow Geese during the Light Goose Conservation season. It kicks off on Monday and runs through March 29th. There's no daily bag limit for the season, as its designed to cut down on bird numbers.
